Roger was born in Minneapolis & raised in Aitkin, MN on a farm with his grandparents. After high school Roger proudly served in the U.S. Army, where he tested winter gear—a role that ignited a lifelong aversion to the cold. After his service, his first job was with Greyhound Bus Company and then his entrepreneurial spirit led him to own multiple businesses such as a machine shop, bakery, and carwash, while skillfully managing his stock portfolios. Even though he grew up poor his determination led him to have success in his ventures. His business acumen was matched only by his ability to listen, engage, and genuinely care for others, making everyone feel valued in his presence. Roger’s favorite quote was, “don’t take any wooden nickels”.
Roger was a warm-hearted and opinionated man, he was known for his witty remarks and the ability to light up a room. He took immense pride in his children and grandchildren; he enjoyed watching his granddaughters' dance competitions. Roger was happiest on the golf course or playing gin with friends. He was also a passionate gardener, tirelessly perfecting his immaculate lawn. Every morning Roger enjoyed feeding a large flock of ducks and so he nabbed the nickname “the duck whisperer”. His legacy of love, drive, and warmth will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know him.
